Description
Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2018 by Antico Borgo is an outstanding, long-lived red wine made from the Aglianico grape variety, produced in the historic wine region of Irpinia in Campania, Italy. The boutique winery Antico Borgo combines a passionate, artisanal approach with an extended period of aging in wooden barrels to fully unlock the potential of this wine—often referred to as the “Barolo of the South.”
The Antico Borgo Estate
Antico Borgo is a small, exquisite winery in Taurasi, managed by Raffaele Inglese and Baldo Di Sessa. With a limited annual production of only about 15,000 to 25,000 bottles, the focus is firmly on quality over quantity. Every single grape is strictly hand-selected.
- Appearance: Intense, deep garnet red with brilliant ruby reflections and heavy, slow-moving tears on the glass rim.
- Nose: A complex, ever-evolving bouquet rich with aromas of dark wild berries, black cherries, and dried plums, masterfully layered with elegant notes of licorice, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate, leather, and a sophisticated touch of balsamic wood spice.
- Palate: Full-bodied, monumental, and incredibly aristocratic. The powerful, tight-knit tannins are velvet-smooth and perfectly integrated, supported by a vibrant, mineral freshness typical of Irpinia’s high-altitude vineyards. The finish is exceptionally long, complex, and noble, leaving behind echoes of dark cocoa and spice.
